At Threshold Acting Studio you will hone your craft while learning specific techniques, tools and skills taken from the art of acting, which will give you the confidence and determination to thrive as an actor.
scene study
Scene study consists of developing specific tools and techniques while working on scenes from the best classic and contemporary plays. The objective is for the actor to find the truth and spontaneity in every scene and empower the actor with valuable knowledge and proven skills that produce visible progress.
- TOOLS & TECHNIQUES -
SCRIPT ANALYSIS:
The text must come to life. You will learn that it is the actor’s responsibility to respect the script with a willingness to read it deeply with a fertile imagination. You will learn how to understand where the playwright is leading the character, the character’s environment, objectives, intentions, obstacles, as well as the full setting, themes and ideas of the play.
FOCUS:
Energy flows where attention goes. You will learn how to focus on something outside of yourself and how to commit fully to your objective.
IMPULSIVENESS:
All good acting stems from an actor's instincts and impulses not from intellect. You will learn to act from your gut, not your head.
ACTION:
Acting is doing, not feeling; feeling comes out of doing. You will learn how acting depends on committing strongly to unique choices by way of doable actions.
CONNECTION:
You will learn how to be an active listener and observer and give yourself permission to be affected by your acting partners and the imaginary circumstances of the scene.
EXPRESSION:
You will learn how to courageously and freely express emotion, allowing your feelings to come out in truthful behavior.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge is power and self-knowledge is essential for the actor. You must know how you feel about things, people, and the world around you as well as a keen interest in deep self analysis.
IMAGINATION:
Imagination is the most powerful source for artists to draw on. You will learn how to create a character and bring it to life as a living experience, using the imagination in all its infinite power.
About christian martin
Christian Martin was born in Denver, Colorado. He moved to France when he was 5 and then to England at 11.
After graduating from the Chrysalis Acting School in London, Christian began working as an actor in theater, tv and film, and has been consistently studying the craft of acting for the past 20 years. He has worked with some of the best directors and teachers in the business including, Larry Moss, Mark Rylance, Gore Verbinski and Gavin Hood.
